Palm Oil Procurement Policy

Palm Oil Procurement Policy

The Nisshin OilliO Group is committed to providing sustainable palm oil catering to customers’ needs. Moving forward, we will continue our efforts to improve our supply chain and to ensure sustainable palm oil.

Furthermore, we are committed to working towards a traceable and transparent palm oil supply chain which complies with No Deforestation, No Peat and No Exploitation (NDPE) commitments as follows:

  • No development of high carbon stock (HCS) forest or high conservation value (HCV) areas for new plantings.
  • No new development of peatland regardless of the depth of development, and promotion of the best management practices for existing oil palm plantations on peat soils.
  • No use of fire in land preparation including for planting and replanting, and no burning of wastes.
  • Identify and reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions even in existing operations.
  • No exploitation of rights of indigenous people or local communities, and respect the principles of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) to operate on lands on which they hold legal, communal or customary rights.
  • Comply with all relevant laws in relation to discrimination ranging from sexual orientation, gender, religion, race, disability, age, political affiliation, marital status and national origin.
  • Comply with laws in respective countries in terms of freedom of association and right to bargain collectively for employees. Eliminate all forms of illegal, forced, bonded and child labor.
  • Follow responsible recruitment practices for all labor including migrant, contract and temporary workers.
  • Prevent and prohibit corruption including extortion and bribery.
  • Comply with all laws and regulations applicable in respective countries with business transactions in progress. If any contradiction arises between globally recognized human rights and the laws of a country or region, compliance will honor principles of international human rights.

Traceability

To ensure that our upstream suppliers uphold our commitments to NDPE, we will collaborate with our first-hand suppliers and aim to establish our supply chain traceability identifying the mills and plantations. In the course of this action, we will offer smallholders to join our supply chains.

Transparency and Reporting

We commit to periodic reporting on the implementation and progress concerning sustainability policy through continued engagement with national and international stakeholders in our palm oil supply chain.

Grievance Procedures

We established a grievance procedure to enable all stakeholders to raise grievances related to our palm oil supply chain. The procedure includes reporting on grievances within our supply chain, action plans on grievance resolution, or communications with stakeholders on updates on the grievances.

*Our goals may be revised, when necessary, subject to new knowledge or social and environmental changes.
